What carrier protein should I choose for conjugation?

KLH and other carrier proteins are ready to bind haptens through sulfhydryl, amine or carboxyl groups make it easy to produce antibodies to almost any molecule. We offer carrier protein such as:

  • Blue Carrier Immunogenic Protein

Blue Carrier Protein is a highly immunogenic hemocyanin protein similar to KLH. This stable, soluble carrier protein can be attached to peptides, proteins and other haptens for antibody production, and elicits a strong immunogenic response.
  • BSA Carrier Protein

Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) is a convenient, highly soluble protein for use as a carrier in preparing immunogens for antibody production from haptens and other non-immunogenic antigens. Choose purified BSA or complete kits with activated protein.
  • KLH Carrier Protein

Keyhole Limpet Hemocyanin (KLH) is a complex, high-MW protein widely used as a carrier protein in antibody production because of its excellent immunogenicity it confers to attached antigens. Choose purified KLH or kits with activated protein.
  • Ovalbumin Carrier Protein

Ovalbumin (OVA), purified from egg whites, is suitable for use as a carrier protein to prepare immunogens for antibody production or secondary target for screening. Choose purified OVA or complete kits with activated protein.
  • SuperCarrier Immune Modulator (Carrier Protein)

Cationized Bovine Serum Albumin (cBSA) has enhanced immunogenicity compared to BSA. Prepare immunogens for antibody production from haptens and other non-immunogenic antigens. Choose purified cBSA or complete kits with activated protein.
  • Other client specified carriers

KLH is typically preferred over BSA due to the higher immunogenicity of KLH.  BSA is often used as a blocking agent in many experimental assays.  Because antisera raised against peptides conjugated to BSA will also contain antibodies to BSA, false positives may occur.
